The Renaissance was a time of great change in medieval Europe. Thinking greatly changed as a result of exploration, trade and most importantly,
the invention of the printing press. Consequently, the people’s daily lives changed dramatically.
The demand for books grew, as more people started reading. This was the direct result of the printing press making
their prices cheaper. Prior to it’s invention, only the rich and literate could afford books. The reason for this is
that copies needed to be hand copied. Writing illustration and all!
Although not a result of renaissance thinking, the fact that most barbarian attacks had stopped was a great asset
to the development of new technology. People would no longer live in fear of being struck done. As a result, this peace led
to the nobles and the formidable merchant class to be able to develop the city. Artists and thinkers would be able to work
in peace. It was a catalyst in Europe’s change.
Paintings and artwork no longer needed to be religious. As such, artistic peasants could show off any obscure talent
without being scrutinised or threatened. This would obviously influence one’s daily life as they are sure to have a
new career and possibly even a higher status. It was a gracious time of opportunity.
There are much other changes that occurred during this time. Along with developments and amounted fortunes, was
the occurrence of the Black Plague which terrified the country. Other such events
as the Merchants rise to power had a significant affect on the daily life style of a citizen.
The renaissance was a time for balance and order. But also a time of misery…
